Before booking your stay in Nosy Be, one question comes up time and again: when is the best time to go? Between the tropical climate, rainy seasons and peak tourist periods, here is everything you need to know to choose the perfect dates for your trip.
Nosy Be's climate in a nutshell
Nosy Be enjoys a tropical climate with two main seasons. The dry season, locally known as the cool season, runs from April to November. The rainy season spans from December to March, with sometimes heavy rainfall and a risk of cyclones in January and February.
High season: April to November
This is undoubtedly the best time to visit Nosy Be. Skies are clear, temperatures hover between 25 and 30°C, and the sea is calm — perfect for diving, snorkeling and boat excursions to the islands of the archipelago. July and August bring humpback whales to the Mozambique Channel, an absolutely unforgettable natural spectacle.
At Belamandy Lodge, this is also the season when sunsets are at their most spectacular, with clear skies offering breathtaking views over Befotaka Bay.
Low season: December to March
The rainy season deters some travellers, but it has its fans. Rain typically falls in short bursts, leaving plenty of sunshine throughout the day. The vegetation is lush, rates are more attractive and the island is far less crowded. That said, January and February are best avoided due to the risk of cyclones.
Our recommendation :
To make the most of Nosy Be and all the activities on offer at Belamandy Lodge — excursions, diving, boat trips — we recommend travelling between April and November, with a special mention for June and July: ideal weather, crystal-clear waters and, if you're lucky, a few whales thrown in for good measure.
